TobyMac Sweeps Australian Music Awards

Rapper TobyMac has added to his collection of awards this week after being crowned the "King" of the Australian Christian music charts.

In addition to already winning his first American Music Award late last year, the singer scored dual honors from Australia's official national Christian music chart- The Rock Across Australia.

TobyMac garnered both Song of the Year and Artist of the Year, according to a press release Thursday.

While his song "Me Without You" maintained a Top 10 position on Australia's Christian radio airwaves, TobyMac "stood out on the chart with multiple entries over the year- four as a soloist, and two as a featured act with other performers," chart researcher Wes Jay explained to Woodlands Media.

The songs Jay referred to include "Changed Forever," "Steal My Show," "Start Somewhere," "Good Morning" with Mandisa," and "Hold Me" with Jamie Grace.

Furthermore, the chart analyst noted TobyMac's incredible radio feat.

"No other artist came close to achieving the same level of airplay on Australian Christian radio in the past year as tobyMac," said Jay. "He's a phenomenon."

Meanwhile, the 5-time Grammy Award-winner is one of the best-known Christian rappers and is also a producer, songwriter, and author. Native to Fairfax, Virginia, TobyMac has released 10 albums over the course of his career. He is an 11-time Dove Award-winner. Among his six Contemporary Hit Radio number one songs are "Gone," "Made to Love," and "Love My Soul."

In November, the Christian recording artist, also known as Toby McKeehan, picked up the AMA for Favorite Artist in the Contemporary/Inspirational category during Sunday's 40th annual awards ceremony.

"This is my first AMA," the singer posted on Twitter when learning of his win. He was unable to attend the awards show because of his Winter Jam tour schedule.

"I still can't believe it. It is so meaningful to me because the people I'm thinking about when I'm writing these songs are the ones who vote," TobyMac continued. "Thank YOU guys from the bottom of my heart!"

He later added, "Thank you guys sooooo much!! You ARE the best!"

TobyMac and his wife Amanda live in Franklin, Tennessee with their five children.
