Tom Hanks has taken to Twitter to express respect and sorrow over the loss of his pet dog.

The "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" star included an image of Monty after the beloved dog's death late last week.

"Monty. Deep brown eyes, noble demeanor, finest dog ever. A sad day. Goodbye Big Boy," posted the 55-year-old actor.

As of late, the Oscar-winner has become more active on the social media site. Hanks provided the bio on his account, writing: "I'm that actor in some of the movies you like and some you didn't. Sometimes I'm in pretty good shape, other times I'm not. Hey, you gotta live, you know?"

The actor tweeted his sad message to over three million users who follow him. Hanks is not the only celebrity to use twitter while mourning the loss of a beloved pet. During the holidays, the British rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his family experienced that loss of their pet Chihuahua.

"Today is a sad day in the Osbourne family house hold," wrote Kelly Osbourne on her Twitter account days after Christmas. "We lost r [our] dog martin (sic) of 14 years. Devastated does not quite sum it up! #NotSoMerryChristmas."

Kelly's mother Sharon Osbourne also posted her grief over the pet online, writing on her official website that Martin was known professional as "Martini Bianco" and that he was a "sophisticated little creature."

Additionally, Jessica Simpson turned to Twitter after the tragic loss of her 5-year-old maltipoo Daisy.

"A coyote took my precious Daisy right in front of our eyes. HORROR!" Wrote the singer on the social media site. "We are searching. Hoping. Please help!"

Simpson offered a reward and posters in her neighborhood asking locals to help locate the dog, which was a gift from her ex-husband Nick Lachey, but unfortunately Daisy never reappeared.

Although he does not have a Twitter account, George Clooney grieved the loss of his unusual pet this year. The actor's potbellied pet pig Max died at 18-years-old.

"He was as old a pig as the vets had ever seen," said Clooney speaking to USA Today. "I was really surprised, because he's been a big part of my life."
