Tony Blair's Sister-in-Law Calls for the Liberation of Jerusalem

September 6, 2011|7:27 pm

Lauren Booth, sister-in-law of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has called for the liberation of “Al-Quds” [Jerusalem].

“We say here today to you, Israel, we see your crimes and we loathe your crimes. And to us your nation does not exist, because it is a criminal injustice against humanity,” she declared at an anti-Israel rally in London Trafalgar’s Square.

Booth added, “We want to see Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt go to the borders and stop this now. Liberate Al Quds! March to Al Quds!”

The 44-year-old, who illegally sailed to Gaza on a flotilla boat, converted to Islam in 2010. She said a holy experience in Iran was the cause for her faith conversion.

Great Britain's Daily Mail reported that Blair's sister-in-law now wears a hijab, covering her head whenever she leaves home, no longer drinks alcohol, and visits a mosque ‘when she can.’

Booth said, “The strange thing is that since I decided to convert I haven’t wanted to touch alcohol, and I was someone who craved a glass of wine or two at the end of a day.”

According to Booth, she had a religious awakening during her visit to a shrine in the Iranian holy city of Qom.

She felt a “‘shot of spiritual morphine, just absolute bliss and joy,” she told the Daily Mail, adding, "I always felt that the ummah [Muslim community] is a very loving, peaceful place and I am proud to be a member of it."

A journalist and human rights campaigner, Booth works for Press TV – the English-language Iranian news channel.

The Trafalgar Square rally could be one of the London's last as the mayor of Britain's capital city vowed to constrain unrest as the 2012 Olympics approach.

"The Mayor believes that intolerance of our fellow citizens and hate crimes against specific communities are totally unacceptable, particularly in a city like London and especially in 2012 when the eyes of the world will be on the capital,” said a spokesman for Mayor Boris Johnson, the London Jewish Chronicle reported.

According to the spokesman, the Greater London Authority, the city's administrative body, will not authorize any political rallies during the Olympic and Paralympics Games.
