'Top Gun 2' Release Date: Movie Premiere Date Still Unknown, But Jerry Bruckheimer Promises to Push Sequel
"Top Gun 2," the sequel to Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer's "Top Gun" was supposed to get a 2014 release but has been delayed since Scott's suicide in 2012.
Bruckheimer, however, is still adamant in creating the sequel as Paramount Pictures, Tom Cruise, and Val Kilmer have all expressed their interest in making it happen.
"For 30 years we've been trying to make a sequel and we're not going to stop. We still want to do it with Tom [Cruise] and Paramount are still interested in making it," Bruckheimer over a year ago according to FlickeringMyth.

"What Tom tells me is that no matter where he goes in the world, people refer to him as Maverick. It's something he is excited about so as long as he keeps his enthusiasm hopefully we'll get it made," he adds.
It is still unknown when the film will be released as Cruise is focusing all of his energies with filming "Mission Impossible 5." There are no speculations on when the "Top Gun" sequel will be released but it could be anytime soon after the premiere of "Mission Impossible 5."
The plot of the movie will be a take on modern aerial warfare, focusing on the role of drones and their replacement of human pilots. A newer, more modern plane will also be used by Maverick in the sequel, an F-35 Lightning II. In the original Top Gun film, Maverick is seen flying an F-14A Tomcat.
