Tori Spelling Broke? Actress Reveals Money Problems

Tori Spelling opened up about her family's struggle with money over her "ridiculous" spending habits in her new tell-all memoir, "Spelling It Like It Is."

The actress and her husband Dean McDermott share four children together, making it no surprise that money would be an issue. However, 40-year-old Spelling grew up wealthy and went on to star in "90210," so why is she pinching pennies?

"I haven't bought a purse in years," the daughter of deceased television mogul Aaron Spelling explained to People magazine. "And it's fine. I look back on that girl who shopped at Gucci in my 20's and I can't even relate. I can't believe I thought it was important."

In is not just purses Spelling has cut back on. In fact, her family's money situation became so dire that 46-year-old McDermott had to abandon plans to have a vasectomy after their business manager clarified that they could not afford it.

In "Spelling It Like It Is," Spelling candidly admits, "It's no mystery why I have money problems. I grew up rich beyond anyone's dreams. I never knew anything else."

The Los Angeles native went on to explain that she has tried to live a "simpler lifestyle," but her affinity for luxury items often wins out. Additionally, the mother-of-four has a habit of buying "ridiculous amounts of stuff" for her children, from clothes to crafts.

Adding to the money woes, Spelling became unexpectedly pregnant with her fourth child, Finn, within just months of welcoming her daughter Hattie. The pregnancy was difficult, and Spelling racked up steep medical bills after being hospitalized for 55 days with placenta previa and then having an emergency C-section. Fortunately, both mother and baby were fine.

Nevertheless, Spelling said she and her husband decided not to have anymore children. They are also "repurposing" items such as clothes with their large brood, and that things will hopefully look up this spring when their new reality series on HGTV, "Tori & Dean: Cabin Fever," makes its first broadcast.

"We don't have a series on the air right now, so we have to be more restrictive of what we can spend, just like anyone who doesn't currently have a steady job," said Spelling to Radar Online.

Additionally, Spelling is set to star on a new ABC Family series "Mystery Girls" alongside Jennie Garth, according to She Knows.

Meanwhile, "Spelling It Like Is It" hit bookshelves on Oct. 22.
