Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf (3) celebrates with teammates Carter Ashton (37) , Nikolai Kulemin (41) , Nazem Kadri (43) and Carl Gunnarsson (36) after his goal against Montreal Canadiens during the second period at Bell Centre.

According to reports, Steve Mason has been given the thumbs up for tonight's season opener. Emery will also likely get his fair share of starts through the season, but the fact that Mason gets the nod for the season opener will have delighted him. It is a symbolic vote of confidence from his bosses at Philly that they want to get his career back on track, and he will no doubt give his all to justify the trust placed in him.

The Flyers will be happy to finally get back on the ice after a long summer, and they will be revved up to host the Toronto Maple Leafs in tonight's first game of the 2013-2014 NHL season.

Tonight's match up will take place at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, and can be watched on CSN Philly, TSN.

According to the Daily News, Scott Laughton will be scratched in favor of Jay Rosehill tonight. That may disappoint Laughton's supporters but will be a big opportunity for Rosehill.
