'Toy Story 4' Release Date and News: Romantic Instead of Adventure Story Line Explained

In what could be the most shocking reveals just yet about the fourth installment of the "Toy Story" franchise, it was reported that the movie will feature a romantic story line, diverting from the usual adventurous path that the previous installments have taken.

Fans were divided when the news first surfaced, and many didn't seem to like the idea of a romantic angle that Pixar is looking to furnish for the upcoming movie. It is only reasonable that many fans of the franchise slammed the idea since "Toy Story" has become one of the globally acclaimed franchises that stole the hearts of children.

With a romantic plot, fans think it might be impossible for some children to find interest in the movie, especially since romance isn't exactly the thing that the previous installments featured. For the most part, a love story wasn't the reason why fans flooded theaters when the previous films released.

In a most recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, president of Pixar Animation Studios, Edwin Catmull, explained the reason behind such a divergent plot. He said the team is just basically done with the "perfect trilogy" that saw the success of the franchise.

"We really wrapped that [trilogy] one up. At this point, you've got to go in a very different direction. This is a different kind of exploration," he said.

Although the question was: "Is it more of an adult story than the previous movies?" and Catmull seemed to give an open-ended answer, it does enlighten those who think that the romantic angle might not work.

It's true that the previous movies didn't really say much about courting or marriage, and while there are still divided comments about Pixar's decision, the production team could possibly create a romantic plot that even children will find interesting, just as they did with Anna's romantic story in "Frozen."

If all plans work as they should, "Toy Story 4" will hit the big screens on June 15, 2018.
