“Can I tell you how grateful I am to Kate Middleton?” Hathaway said. “Because she is such an advocate for dressing like a lady.”

“I think for a few years that kind of slightly dirty look was adopted by Hollywood-you know, the stringy hair, homeless thing. And I really tried. I was like, ‘OK I’m going to give it a go.’ [But] it doesn’t suit me, I don’t suit it. I always looked kind of chubby.”

It was the culmination of the royal couple's recent two-week North American tour during which Kate dazzled onlookers at every turn by wearing simple, classic dresses showing off her tiny waist and lending a look of indisputable sophistication.

For though William and Kate were received by excited royal fans wherever they travelled, there is no escaping the fact that most people’s memories of the trip was the Duchess’s wardrobe.

Hathaway, 28, was shunning the “stringy, homeless look” and said she was not a fan of the "less is more" craze hitting high gear with sheer summer dresses.

The fashion-forward Hathaway says Middleton's understated elegance even inspired her to revamp her own wardrobe.

So what did the royal touch teach fashionista’s this year? Hathaway said the classic and modest wardrobe choices dawned by the new princess set a new example that a conservative outfit can be attractive and eye-catching at the same time.

“I’m just very grateful to Kate Middleton for making looking appropriate really fun again,” Hathaway shared. “Right now my fashion choices are all about Kate Middleton.”

From her sweet and feminine basic one-pieces to her classic Oxford blazers and jeans, Middleton was found to be influencing the fashion world one knee-length dress at a time.

Several of her outfits, including her Reiss bandage dress, which the princess wore when meeting President Barack Obama and the First Lady, have sold out within record-breaking sales, showing that the American public is now eager to imitate the princess’ style.

Stylists are noting that the duchess has "brought back the conservative,” with more and more people embracing her reserved and subtle style.

“[Middleton is] making a mark in the fashion world,” celebrity fashion stylist Rachel Zoe said in a recent interview.

Truly an example of how modest and affordable could still be chic, the “Middleton effect” has been gaining speed everywhere, from Hollywood’s hottest stars to America's working women.

“I think we are in the fortunate position of having a delightful new member of the royal family who can be a great representative for our country in many ways, including how she dresses,” UK Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman told Hello! Magazine.
