Although Troy Davis was executed on Wednesday night, celebrities took to their Twitter accounts to express their support, grief and frustrations.
Kim Kardashian, model and reality television personality, expressed her frustration with the killing of Davis that took place on Wednesday night.
“I want to vent about the execution of Troy Davis,” Kardashian wrote on her Twitter account Wednesday. “He is getting the death penalty tonight but I believe he is innocent!!”
Kardashian said it was unfair that Davis was not able to take a lie detector test known as a polygraph.
"All he wants is a polygraph test to prove he's innocent and the judicial system can't give that to him,” she questioned. “Let's make Troy Davis a trending topic!"
Although it was the day of his execution, Kardashian requested that her close to 10 million followers research the Davis case.
“Everyone google Troy Davis and read his story,” she tweeted. “No One should die by lethal injection when there is this much doubt! Help save Troy Davis."
When the execution was momentarily delayed, Kardashian let her followers know what was happening in hope of a changed outcome.
"There’s still hope,” she wrote. “The Supreme Court has delayed Troy Davis' Execution for one hour to review his case!"
Despite the efforts of Kardashian and countless other Davis supporters, the man accused of killing an off-duty police officer was eventually executed by lethal injection when the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a final plea by his defense team at about 10.20 p.m. EST.
Tyrese, R&B singer and actor, told his Twitter followers not to mourn for the possibly innocent Davis.
“His death wasn't in vain. Rest in heaven good brother,” Tyrese wrote. “We should all pray for his family and friends. Blessings"
Russell Simmons, entertainment mogul, expressed his disapproval of the verdict.
“I personally don't believe in an eye for an eye and this case was way too much doubt for those Americans who do,” Simmons wrote. “Sad."
Davis’ last words were reportedly:
"The incident that night was not my fault. I did not have a gun. I did not personally kill your son, father or brother. I am innocent. Look deeper into this case, so you can really find the truth. For those who are about to take my life, may god have mercy upon your souls, and may god bless your souls."
