'True Detective' Season 2 Cast: Brad Pitt Rumors Shot Down

The 'True Detective' season 2 cast will not feature Brad Pitt, according to a new report.

An HBO insider told GossipCop that Pitt is not being eyed for the role in the second season and that this rumor is "pure speculation by an outsider."

A previous report from Hollywood Life hinted at the actor playing a character in the second season.

"Brad's name has come up many times, it's just a matter of what his other commitments are," said the insider. "Brad has tight relations with HBO- he teamed up with Ryan Murphy last year to produce the HBO movie The Normal Heart. I know everyone would be thrilled to have him onboard."

The show's writer Nic Pizzolatto hinted in a recent interview with Buzzfeed that the second season might take place in Southern California.

When asked about what other long-term stories he could write for the next one he revealed a possible location.

"Oh, all kinds of conspiracies suggest themselves," he said. "Especially if, like me, you've been reading about the last 40 years of Southern California government."

He also discussed one of his recent tweets that he deleted, which addressed the show's lack of strong female characters.

"I deleted the tweet because I didn't want to be beholden to a promise and then change my mind," he said. "I'm writing Season 2 right now, but I don't want to divulge any potentialities, because so much could change. I just never want to create from a place of critical placation- that's a dead zone. So I don't want, for instance, a gender-bias-critique to influence what I do."

Pizzolatto revealed earlier in the week that Season 2 will revolve around "hard women," "bad men" and the "secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system."
