'True Detective' Season 2 News, Spoilers: Velcoro Goes Toe-to-Toe With Semyon in New Trailer, Season 3 Coming?

The new trailer for the upcoming episode of HBO's hit crime drama TV series "True Detective" dropped off some details suggesting that this week's showing will surely be intense.

The promo video for the episode called "Church in Ruins" opens up with a tense standoff between Colin Farrell's Ray Velcoro and Vince Vaughn's Frank Semyon. Both are waiting for what the other might do with their guns hidden under the table ready to fire.

Meanwhile, Rachel McAdams' Ani Bezziredes goes in deep with her investigation. The video shows her attending at one of those exclusive parties and she has to do it in complete undercover; "without phones or anything else," she said in the trailer.

The synopsis for episode 6 was posted over at The Futon Critic and it reads:

"Desperate to locate a missing woman with intel on Caspere, Frank (Vince Vaughn) meets with Mexican drug dealers. Ani (Rachel McAdams) infiltrates an exclusive inner circle, with Ray (Colin Farrell) and Paul (Taylor Kitsch) keeping close tabs."

Meanwhile, news is rife this week indicating the possibility for HBO to renew the series. Following the outrage and disappointment of fans who were expecting so high of the show after the stellar freshman season (with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson), it appears that chance is highly unlikely.

A report from Fashion & Style points out that although its premiere draws in an impressive 3.2 million viewer counts, the rest of the season has suffered a painful up and down of ratings. Not to mention the bad raps coming from critics noting the imperfections for each of the episodes.

Needless to say, it remains unclear if the cabler will still pick up the anthology crime drama.

For the meantime, "True Detective" Season 2 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
