'Twilight' New Short Film Series Rumors, Cast News: Vampire Love Saga to Continue on Facebook

For those who can't just get enough of the Twilight series, Lionsgate announced that there will be new short films created around characters from the saga.

The Hollywood professional organization Women in Film, crowdsourcing platform Tongal, as well as "Twilight Saga" author Stephanie Meyer penned a partnership with Facebook for a new "multiphase" social media contest.

The competition, as Lionsgate Films announced, will chose a group of aspiring female filmmakers to have the chance to direct a series of short films that are based on the characters from Meyer's "Twilight" universe but not necessarily feature any film cast members.

Entitled "The Storytellers – New Creative Voices of the Twilight Saga," the contest will enlist the five winning female filmmakers to helm the short films under the guidance from the panelists that will include Kristen Stewart, Meyer, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke, producer Cathy Schulman, as well as "Frozen" director Jennifer Lee.

To be financed through "financial advances," the five winning films will then be released exclusively on Facebook in 2015.

A grand winner, which is to be voted by the fans on Facebook and Tongal platforms, will bag cash prizes and career opportunities.

"We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of Twilight to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans," Lionsgate vice chairman Micharl Burns told The New York Times. "This is the just the beginning—a template, if you will. You can probably guess what might be coming next."

"Women In Film is proud to help recruit and mentor female filmmakers as part of a project that illustrates the power of a beloved book and movie franchise to lessen the gender gap in our film community and provide a platform for women's perspectives to be seen and heard," said Cathy Schulman, president of the Women in Film.

"The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I've worked in the film industry. I'm honored to be working with Women In Film, Lionsgate, and Facebook on a project dedicated to giving more women a chance to be heard creatively," Stephanie Meyer said.
