Twin brothers loyal to the Islamic State brutally stabbed their parents and older brother Friday because they were trying to stop them from joining the radical terrorist group.

According to multiple media reports, radicalized 20-year-old twin brothers, Khalid and Saleh Al Areeni, stabbed their mother, father and brother early last Friday morning in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia.

The twins' 67-year-old mother, Haila Al Areeni, died after being stabbed several times. After they killed their mother, they stabbed their father and brother, Sulaiman. Both were left critically wounded and were later taken to a nearby hospital where they are being treated.

According to the Russian government news agency RT, investigators say the men first attacked their mother with a clever and other sharp knives. After killing their mother, the boys allegedly attacked their father and then chased their brother before stabbing him multiple times.

After stabbing their family members, the two men allegedly took off in a stolen car. However, the twins were later arrested by police about 60 miles west of Riyadh.

According to Gulf News, reports in Saudi Arabia indicate that the mother suspected her twin sons were planning to leave the country to join IS (also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh) in one of the group's combat areas.

Additionally, the mother had threatened to alert the authorities if her sons kept plotting to join IS.

"Investigations revealed that they lured their mother to the storeroom and stabbed her several times," Gulf News quoted a police spokesman as saying. "Then, they went to the father and treacherously stabbed him before chasing their brother and stabbing him as well."

Gulf News also reports that hundreds of mourners showed up to the slain mother's funeral on Saturday to pay their respects. During the funeral, mourners reportedly praised Haila Al Areeni as a dedicated mother with a tremendous amount of character and generosity.

Al Arabiya reports that similar acts of family violence perpetrated by IS fanatics have happened before in Saudi Arabia.

Last September, two brothers believed to be loyal to IS killed their cousin, who was a Saudi soldier, and three other people in the desert.

As authorities conducted a manhunt and tracked the men down in a mountainous region, the men started a gunfight with authorities.

According to The Associated Press, the 18-year-old brother, Abdul-Aziz Radi Ayash al-Anzi, was killed in the gunfight, while his 21-year-old brother, Saad Radi Ayash al-Anzi, was wounded and arrested. The Saudi Press Agency informed AP that one Saudi soldier was killed during the operation.
