However, they will have to go through Brugge in order to seal their spot in the competition's group stages.

They are indeed stronger on paper, with new signings like Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin eager to show what they can do to help the Red Devils, they must still be wary of the threat that Brugge can offer them.

Brugge took part of the third qualifying round of the competition, where they faced Panathinaikos in a two-legged match-up. They eventually won 4-2 on aggregate and with only Manchester United between them and the group stages, expect the Belgian club to do all that they can in order to make sure they are the team that moves on to the next round of the competition.

Tuur Dierckx should be one striker that the Red Devils should look out for as early in the season, the 20-year-old has been on target with already two goals in only three appearances in the Belgian league.

Tom De Sutter is also another player that Brugge will rely on to score as the 30-year-old has a knack of coming up with great goals when the team needs it the most.

Despite United being better on paper, there is still a lot of work to be done and a dominating win at home should help them gain more confidence before the return leg in Belgium.

United manger Louis van Gaal should be wary of the team's nerves as they return to the competition as it may get the best of his players – even those who have had experience in the Champions League before.
