UFC 2015 News: MMA Welterweight Fighter Cathal Pendred Announces Retirement

Irish mixed martial artist and UFC welterweight fighter Cathal Pendred called it a career on Wednesday after just six UFC bouts. The announcement of his retirement from the Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts competition was made through his Twitter account.

His immediate retirement may come as a surprise to many especially that the UFC star is just 28 years old. However, looking at his past two fights, there in fact is good reason to call it quits. He currently holds a record in the MMA of 17 wins, four losses, and one draw. Although he won his first four fights after joining the UFC in 2014, he lost his last two, including a devastating first-round knockout loss to Tom Breese in the recently concluded UFC Fight Night Dublin.

Before joining the UFC, the fighter from Dublin held the Cage Warriors welterweight belt.

In his Twitter announcement, he said that he's been always a hundred percent type of individual when it comes to fighting. "I am a passionate person and I always give 100 percent to what I do. I have been passionate about MMA for a long time and my focus on the sport has been my driving force for the last nine years," he wrote.

But after commending the sport he loved for almost a decade, he knows that it's no longer his calling. According to him, the passion is gone and that he had to move on with some other interests he wants to pursue.

The Irish fighter first became a popular local fighter, in the process touring fighting circuits in and around Europe. But he shone the brightest as a participant of the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship promotion, where he had an undefeated run of five wins with no losses and a draw. After that, he became part of the 19th season of The Ultimate Fighter, but only managed to reach the semifinals after losing to Eddie Gordon.
