The Jack Russell terrier dog Uggie has retired from "acting," his trainers announced Thursday.

Omar Von Muller and Sarah Clifford at Animal Savvy were responsible for training the canine movie star.

"He may do a couple of little things here and there because he enjoys them, but I don't want to put him through long hours anymore," said Von Muller speaking to Life & Style Magazine. "He's getting tired."

Uggie's most recent appearances include the films, "Water For Elephants," and "The Artist."

Von Muller explained that Uggie is getting older and has accomplished a great deal. Now, he "just wants to relax at home." The trainer added that filmmakers need not fear a shortage of canine talent though, and mentioned Uggie's brother, Dash.

"If somebody wants to do a movie with Uggie, they'll just have to deal with Dash."

At 10-years-old, Uggie will officially say goodbye to the camera next month. The dog will attend the Golden Collar Awards, a canine awards show, on Feb. 13. Additionally, the terrier is nominated for two Golden Collars.

Many people are hoping to see Uggie at the upcoming Oscars, reported Life & Style, although the awards specifically prohibit animals from being nominated.

"I hope he gets to go," said Uggie's other trainer, Omar. "They should send him an envelope to bring to Billy Crystal."

This year's Oscars will be hosted by Crystal, airing Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. EST.

Uggie's role in "The Artist" may have helped earn the film 10 Academy Award nominations. The silent, black and white film has received widespread critical acclaim. In addition to the Academy Award nods "The Aritst" saw six Golden Globe nominations, winning in categories for Best Motion Picture- Musical of Comedy, Best Original Score, and Best Actor.

Along with Uggie, the film stars actors Jean Dujardin, Berenice Bejo, and John Goodman.
