UK Cell Phone Service Allows Bible Verse Messaging
UK startup Mixodia has developed Portabible, a complete searchable version of The King James Bible for cell phones. Combined with SMS technology, cell phone users can send and receive verses to one another and will even reward users for recommending the service to their friends.
The service allows users to request specific verses, random verses, and search for keywords. It will also send you a thought for the day or week.
Portabible is currently available only in the UK, but partnerships in other countries are possible if the service is successful.
Messages cost between 50p and £1.00 and all profits are currently going towards Christian Aid, an organization that provides support for missions and assistance to the afflicted.
Tony Jewell, Mixodia MD, was the founder of the worlds longest running Cybercafe (CB1 in Cambridge), Cityscape, the UK's first mainstream internet provider and most recently Planetrecruit.com the UK's largest online recruitment service. Mixodia is developing a range of social software applications for cell phones and is always looking for new and interesting applications.
