Undercover Video Exposes Albuquerque Late-Term Abortion Clinic Ahead of City Vote

November 14, 2013|6:29 pm

Live Action, a pro-life advocacy group, has released another one of its undercover abortion clinic videos. This one exposes a clinic in Albuquerque, N.M., a city that is nearing a vote on banning the late-term abortions that take place at the clinic.

The video shows a woman, working undercover for Live Action, calling Southwestern Women's Options to inquire about an abortion at 25 weeks. The cost, she is told, is $8,000. For each week she waits, the cost increases by $1,000.

The video then shows the undercover investigator, now at 27 weeks pregnant, at her appointment in the clinic. The clinic's abortionist and a counselor explain how the procedure would work.

The fetus is first injected with a substance to stop their heart from beating. When asked if the fetus feels the injection, the counselor first answers, "I'm not sure," then says in an uncertain voice, "I don't believe so?"

After the two women discuss whether they are bothered by the possibility of the fetus feeling pain, the counselor says that the procedure is "the most, kinda, humane way to do it," because, "we cannot deliver a live baby."

When the abortionist, Dr. Carmen Landau, is asked if she has done the procedure before on women at 27 weeks, she answers in a hushed voice, "yeah, lots."

Landau then explains that "people come from all over the country and all over the world to our clinic ... because in most places you cannot get an abortion after 24 weeks."

"This facility is only one of the worst examples of the abortion industry's complete disregard for basic human rights," Lila Rose, Live Action's president, explained. "Babies shot through the heart with poison, mothers left to deliver their dead children in an empty hotel room."

Albuquerque, where New Mexico's two abortion clinics are located, will vote next Tuesday on a 20-week abortion ban. A September poll by the Albuquerque Journal showed that 54 percent of the city's adult residents support the measure.

"The effect of this ban is statewide," Julie Koob, a legislative advocate for Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, told Politico. "This ban really is Albuquerque voters voting on behalf of all New Mexican families across the state."
