Upcoming Wonder Woman film reveals new production set

Despite receiving a handful of negative reviews from film critics, the recently released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earned more than what was expected, and one very good reason for that is the positive feedback on Wonder Woman's big screen debut. And with the success of her very first exposure comes her first standalone movie, which according to rumors, will hit theaters next year.

But because it is still a long wait before we all can see Gal Gadot in the lead role, the makers of the film found a way to spark interest – by providing some production footage via a local TV news show in Italy, where the movie is currently shooting. The footage, according to GameSpot, shows the remarkable set in Matera, specifically built to represent "Themyscira," the home of Wonder Woman.

Directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster, 2003), the film also stars Chris Pine as Captain Steve Trevor. The other cast members include Robin Wright as General Antiope, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, and Lucy Davis as Etta Candy.

Unlike her role in the Dawn of Justice, Gadot says that the Wonder Woman in this film will be portrayed starting from her childhood up to the point of becoming the Amazonian superhero. Although there is rumor and a lot of fantasy in the movie, it looks like the dark theme, similar to Dawn of Justice, will be retained.

Back to the first look at "Themyscira," the footage, courtesy of the Italian local media, showed background actors and the film crew busy doing their own stuff. But what really is interesting about the video is that it shows how big a project this coming blockbuster is. It also will serve as Gadot's baptism of fire, as the Israeli actress and model takes her very first leading role in a movie after the success and positive feedback of her role as Wonder Woman, which she will be reprising in this one.
