Michael Phelps has already qualified for the Olympics topping the 200-meter butterfly. Ryan Lochte, on the other hand, is set to compete on Thursday for the 200-meter individual medley. Both Olympic medalists decided not to participate in the 100-meter freestyle event for the trials.

Lochte earlier failed to qualify in the 400-meter individual medley but has reportedly earned a spot in the relay with a fourth place finish in the 200-meter freestyle. His performance was greatly affected by a pulled groin muscle that prevented him from performing his best on his listed events.

Coach David Marsh said that Lochte has been receiving treatment for his injury and is prepared to swim on Thursday for another individual medley event.

Female Swimmers Continue with Trials

Meanwhile, young swimmer Katie Ledecky has qualified for the women's 200-meter freestyle but she is still set to compete for the 100-meter freestyle semifinals on Thurday and the 800-meter for both Thursday and Friday. Another competitor for the 100-meter freestyle is Missy Franklin, who is also included in the list of swimmers for the 200-meter backstroke the day after.
