As Valentine's Day rolls around again this year, Taylor Swift, Eva Longoria, Julianne Hough and many other stars have revealed their romantic plans.

Celebrated on Feb. 14 each year, Valentine's Day marks a special occasion intended to express love for one's significant other by presenting flowers, chocolates, candy, or cards, known as valentine's, to one another. Since the 19th century though, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards

Of late, lovers often share a romantic evening over dinner and exchange gifts such as roses on the heartfelt occasion. Even Hollywood starlets enjoy Valentine's Day festivities, with or without a significant other.

Known for her tumultuous love life, newly single Taylor Swift revealed her Valentine's Day plans while speaking to the U.K.'s FemaleFirst.

"I will probably spend it with my friends or rehearsing," said the singer who recently split from One Direction's Harry Styles.

"And I don't think I would rather be anywhere else, to be honest," noted the 23-year-old, according to femalefirst.co.uk.

Also single, Eva Longoria will be celebrating Valentine's Day out, with her birthday to follow just one month later.

The former "Desperate Housewives" star divorced NBA player Tony Parker in 2011, but has been romantically linked to Victor Cruz and Mark Sanchez in recent months. Despite her love life making headlines, Longoria will be spending the heartfelt holiday with friends on Thursday.

"Eva said she would be spending Valentine's Day with her girlfriends- like she always does," revealed a source close to the actress, according to People magazine.

As for her birthday, March 15, the actress is "taking a trip to South America, which she is really excited about," the source noted.

"She joked that you shouldn't celebrate birthdays after a certain age because we don't want to remind people how old we are," said the insider.

Alternately, "Safe Haven" star Julianne Hough has been in a longstanding relationship with "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest. The actress revealed that her boyfriend enjoys celebrating their love, and will likely plan something special for Valentine's Day.

"[Ryan likes] surprising me and ending up at a restaurant and having the place cleared out and rose petals and stuff like that," said the star while speaking to People magazine.

"This year I think it will be more understated," added the 24-year-old. "I have no idea [about Thursday's plans]. He likes to do Valentine's Day."

Hough noted that Seacrest's efforts make her feel "so cute and special."
