'Vanity Fair' Publishing Gwyneth Paltrow Piece Despite Protest by Actress

Vanity Fair is going ahead with its plan to publish an article about Gwyneth Paltrow despite the actress' repeated pleas not to. Editor Graydon Carter noted that the article has already been started and will run as planned.

"We started a story on her," Carter told The Times of London. "We have a very good writer and it'll run… She sort of forced my hand. Some famous people believe that they live in a cone of celebrity that protects them, but it doesn't really exist any more in LA unless they stay in. I mean, you can be a well-known movie star and go decades without getting an embarrassing picture in a magazine just by leading a quiet, normal life."

Paltrow, however, became upset after reading pieces on Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Even though she has appeared on the magazine's cover several times, those pieces upset her enough to where she reportedly asked friends and family not to collaborate with Vanity Fair on this newest piece.

"The magazine said it was going to proceed with the story without her, so her team has been asking people not to talk at all," a source told the New York Post.

"Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine," Paltrow wrote in an email sent to her inner circle, according to the New York Times. "If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again."

Carter responded with a quote to the New York Times, noting that the staff "wouldn't be doing our job if there wasn't a little bit of tension between 'Vanity Fair' and its subjects. In any given week, I can expect to hear from a disgruntled subject in Hollywood, Washington, or on Wall Street. That's the nature of the beast."

It's unknown what angle journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis is taking with the piece, but apparently it was enough to cause a rift with Paltrow.
