'Vikings' Season 3 Latest News: Tax Deals Suggest 16 Episodes for Season 4

Fresh from airing its Season 3 premiere episode last Thursday, recent news now indicate that the hit historical TV drama series may have already gotten an early renewal, based on a reported tax deal.

A report from TVSeriesFinale.com cited a report from The Sunday Times in U.K. pointing out that the show's producers "have stumped up €45m" in tax breaks to "fund the fourth series" of the said History Channel show.

The funding round was finalized on the Feb. 12 which is exactly one day before the Revenue Commissioners ended the 481 tax break, wrote The Sunday Times. It was raised by accountancy firm Mazars and Clancy & Associates, a tax consultancy firm based on Dublin.

"It is understood the money will fund 16 episodes of the series, which is largely filmed at Ashford Studios in Co Wicklow and in the surrounding countryside," the publication specified.

It was also revealed that the "preparatory work" has already started for Season 4 and the filming production is expected to commence in May.

TV Series finale meanwhile pointed out the show's poor performance since its first season ended.

As reported by the site, Vikings had suffered "more than 20 percent" declining rate since Season 1. Moreover, its season 3 debut only drew a "1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.8 million viewers" which is more than 20 percent lower than the previous season's premiere airing of 1.3 demo and 3.56 million viewership shares.

The site seems to suggest that with the consistent decline of viewership, Season 4 might be the last time that fans will see the exploits of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and his brave warriors.

For the meantime, "Vikings" continues to air its Season 3 every Thursdays at 10 p.m. on History Channel.
