'Voltron: Legendary Defender' Season 5 Rumors: Next Installment of Netflix Anime to Arrive Between February and April 2018

While nothing is confirmed as of this writing, it is now speculated that the upcoming season 5 of Netflix's "Voltron: Legendary Defender" will arrive between February and April 2018.

The studio behind "Voltron: Legendary Defender," Studio Mir, has yet to announce when it will release the next season of the rebooted anime classic. After all, its entire season 4 only arrived last Friday, Oct. 13.

However, it is speculated that it will not take long for "Voltron: Legendary Defender" to return to Netflix. While there is no clear pattern of the release of the seasons of the anime, as its first two seasons were separated by a seven-month interval while there is only a two-month gap between the arrival dates of its third and recently released season, it is now suspected that "Voltron: Legendary Defender" season 5 may arrive between February and April next year.

What is certain at this point in time, though, is that the entire anime series is only halfway through if the original plan still holds. To recall, Studio Mir earlier said that the rebooted anime classic will have a total of 78 episodes. Including the six episodes of its recently released season 4, there is now a total of 39 episodes.

Meanwhile, although the recently released season 4 of "Voltron: Legendary Defender" only came with six episodes, it is all a part of Netflix's plan. While the streaming platform likes to treat its subscribers to binge-watching, it has broken up the series' seasons into smaller chunks so that more episodes can come fast. Hence, it can be said that the just released season 4 of "Voltron: Legendary Defender" is a sort of season 3B of the anime series.

"The idea is to get you more 'Voltron' more often. It's in smaller doses, but you'll see it more," executive producer Lauren Montgomery said at last July's SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con).

According to Studio Mir's director Joaquim Dos Santos, the new season format was an idea of Dreamworks executives. While the studio was initially adamant against the idea, it dawned on them that it would be better than coming up with a longer season and make the fans wait longer for the next one to arrive.

"I would love to say we were smart enough to come up with that ourselves. But we make the show, we don't think about necessarily the big overarching roll out strategies. That was something that was presented to us from I think meetings that happen on an executive level that is a little above our pay grade," Dos Santos said.
