Volvo Polestar 1 News: The Company's Take on Electric Vehicles

The automobile market has seen a lot of car variants in the past century alone. However, this year it seems like companies are vying to have a part in the electric vehicle (EV) market that Tesla first dug up.

Recent reports have revealed that luxury automobile maker Volvo has unveiled what could trump Elon Musk's Tesla in the market. It comes in the form of the Polestar 1, which offers specs like 600 horsepower and 93 miles of EV range.

"Polestar 1 is the first car to carry the Polestar on the bonnet," said Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Volvo's Polestar, as reported by Carscoops. "A beautiful GT with amazing technology packed into it - a great start for our new Polestar brand. All future cars from Polestar will feature a fully electric drivetrain, delivering on our brand vision of being the new standalone electric performance brand."

It was unveiled this week at an event held in Shanghai, and it is in line with Volvo's vow to only introduce electric cars beginning on 2019. According to The Verge, the Polestar 1 is capable of churning out 600 horsepower through its gasoline-hybrid powertrain, and it is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. Volvo is also right to say that it has the longest EV range on any hybrid in the market.

The Polestar 1 is also equipped with Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension, which allows its users to tweak the settings of the vehicle's suspension depending on their preference or driving conditions. In line with its modernization process, the Polestar 1 will employ the phone as a key method of accessing the car, which means that an app can give access to the vehicle, with no need for a key.

There is no official release date or pricing yet for the Polestar 1. However, fans can already pre-order as it is now available. More information is expected on the Polestar 1 in the coming months.
