The series was tied 1-1 before moving to Game 3, with both teams trying to get a big win in order to get the series lead.

Things were very evenly matched in the first period as both teams traded shooting instances and played defense well as the both teams came up blank after the first 20 minutes. New York still had many chances in the game as indicated by the total shots on goal they took, but they could not beat Braden Holtby as the 25-year-old Canadian stopped all 30 attempts from the Rangers, including three while short-handed.

Meanwhile, the Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist faced four power-play shots and stopped them all, but conceded one of the 18 Capitals shots while the team were evenly matched.

Now facing a deficit, expect the veteran New York squad to come out with the same aggression as they did as they hope that the puck will eventually find the back of the net. They must get the big win in D.C. to avoid going home facing elimination and needing to win three straight matches to advance to the next round.

For the Capitals, this is the perfect time to put all the pressure on the Rangers with a Game 4 win which gives them enough tries to finish the series off and finally eliminate one of their rivals.
