'Wasteland 2: Director's Cut' Release Date News: Arriving for PS4 and Xbox One in October

"Wasteland 2: Director's Cut" is finding its way to current generation consoles PS4 and Xbox One on Oct. 13, 2015. The game was originally released for PC (Microsoft Windows, OS and Linux) in October 2013 and is the official sequel of the 1988 game "Wasteland." The PC version was developed after the developer successfully raised enough funds through a campaign on crowdfunding site Kickstarter.

Plans for a "Director's Cut" of the game came out in early 2015, with both Microsoft and Sony announcing in March 2015 that the game was coming to their consoles within the year. According to an IGN report, the game will be offered as a "remastered version" of the sequel. It will be first available in the Americas on Oct. 13, and then the rest of the world on Oct. 16.

The post-apocalyptic action role-playing game is said to feature "overhauled graphics, expanded voice-overs, gameplay enhancements and tweaks" as well as "fully redone level and character art, an enhanced lighting system and improved textures." What it essentially offers is a "complete visual overhaul."

According to Gamespot, the console editions have new voice-overs, covering "tens of thousands of new new lines" as well as new and updated weapon sounds. As far as gameplay goes, the console versions also have overhauled user interface and controls that support console controllers, something that was not present in the PC edition. New systems such as "Precision Strike" and "Perk and Traits" were also added by the developer. Players should also expect "tweaks in combat and balancing" in the console editions.

Those who want try out the "Director's Cut" may do so at GamesCom where a demo gameplay for the game will be available at the booth of Deep Silver, said the Gamespot report.

The first "Wasteland" game was released in 1988 and its sequel "Wasteland 2" arrived 26 years after. It is set in an "alternate history timeline" wherein a nuclear holocaust occurred in 1998 due to a global nuclear war that was triggered by meteors that crashed on the Earth.
