'Wasteland 3' Release Date, Spoilers and News: Upcoming RPG to Feature New Story and Gameplay; Crowdfunding Campaign Moving to Fig

"Wasteland 2" just turned a year old, yet the game developers already announced its sequel in this seemingly fast paced video game world, the "Wasteland 3".

New Features

With the wide success of "Wasteland 2", game developer inXile Entertainment aims to capitalize on this momentum to launch the next installment, "Wasteland 3". The game will not be a simple upgrade though as fans could expect new vehicles, environmental dangers, and a newly revamped and more fluid action system.

However, the banner and flagship feature of the upcoming "Wasteland 3" would have to be the story-driven multiplayer that could either be synchronous or asynchronous. The players are also given the chance to improve their Ranger Base.

Story and Gameplay

"Wasteland 3" is set in the arctic tundra of frozen Colorado. The dialog tree system has also been revamped by the writers of "Torment: Tides of Numenera". This game is also an upcoming fantasy role playing game from the developers.

The players of "Wasteland 3" would have to start the game as the sole survivor of a Ranger squad called Team November. However, Colorado has no idea who the Desert Rangers are, so building reputation from scratch would be the foremost objective.

Multiplayer mode would allow players to control each of their own squad of rangers. "Wasteland 3" still focuses on the individual gaming experience though. However, if multiplayer mode is utilized, sharing missions and splitting up to cover more ground would be possible. There's also the option to play "Wasteland 3" while the other player is offline. However, all these decisions would have consequences and may affect the other player in the long run.

The ranger also uses an upgradeable vehicle for travelling around the area. This vehicle can then be used to store goods, explore the vicinity, and to just survive "Wasteland 3" in general. This vehicle could even be used as a cover while in the middle of a combat.

Crowdfunding Campaign

As the development "Torment: Tides of Numenera" is already concluding, most of the production staff in inXile Entertainment has been directly relegated to "Wasteland 3". Also, as per inXile game tradition, "Wasteland 3" will be a crowdfunded game.

However, the company is ditching Kickstarter in favor of Fig. This program was set up by video game developers that include Tim Schafer. It lets the people to actually invest in the projects instead of just backing them up.

The "Wasteland 3" campaign will be launching on October 5. The funding target is $2.75 million, with inXile Entertainment taking a maximum of $2.25 million for equity. The minimum investment value is at $1000, but backing up the project would allow anyone to contribute smaller amounts.
