We are All Seekers of God

Psalm 42:1-5 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, "Where is your God?" These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng. Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior

Imagine a deer near the streams of water quenching the deep thirst for a sip of water. As this deer pants for the streams of water, you long for the Spirit of God to intervene in your life. You look to the sky on a clear day, and your heart feels refreshed, but on a rainy day, the sky looks gloomy along with the world beneath it. In the same way, we face God when our hearts are pure, when our focus is not blurred by the living ways of the world.

Many times, we are filled with anxiety; we fall in despair. Where is the origin of that hopelessness inside our hearts? We ask these questions over and over again, “Why are you downcast…? Why so disturbed within me?” Why am I not happy even though I possess all necessaries of the world?

The author of Psalm explicates that answer by telling us that we lost God in our sight. We do not hear the voice of God but rather someone who stands on the benefit of the evil. Why do we hate and become jealousy of others? Why does the youngsters use illegal substances to excite their natural state of mind? What are they really longing for? Their soul longs for God. Even with all material possession and worldly success, people are never satisfied.

People do not know where to stand; their hearts do not find the true rest they so long for. Rather than reasoning the existence of God, let us ponder up on the world to an atheist and the world to all believers of God. Wouldn’t it happy if we were all united under God, under this amazing love of God.

Let us with strong conviction suppress the devilish power of this world and return to God who calls us with His arms of genuine love.
