The executive director of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA)’s religious liberty arm will be flying to Turkey to deliver Christmas gifts and to help Christians who have fled from Iraq.
Though the challenge is “huge,” John Candelin explained to the Mission Network News (MNN) that “it's better to do a little than to do nothing.”
“So that's why I'm going there,” he added, “to comfort them, to share the Gospel about the birth of Jesus Christ and bring them some food and toys for the children."
The focus of the WEA director’s brief trip will be to assist up to 400 Iraqis who are among the countless many who have tried to escape from the intimidation and persecution they faced on a daily basis while living in Iraq.
Candelin said it is “unfortunate” that Iraq is losing its Christian population and encouraged other believers to pray for his trip and, if possible, to also offer financial aid.
"The least you can do is the most you can do, and that is to pray,” the WEA official stated. “But also, if you want to give a financial gift at Christmas, that will be very much appreciated."
