Westboro Baptist Church to Protest 'Fags and Whores' at NY Fashion Week

Westboro Baptist Church, a religious sect known for its outrageous and controversial slogans, is preparing to protest the ongoing New York Fashion Week.

Westboro in Topeka Kansas has justified its upcoming protest by saying fashion is for the proud. The sect has been attacked for its message of hatred against homosexuals, fallen service men, music and television celebrities, and now looks set to spread its hatred to the fashion industry.

Even though many consider fashion to simply be a source of entertainment, the religious sect claims it only goes to serve people’s vanity.

Steven Drain, a spokesman for the group told the New York Post: “The whole idea of the fashion industry is to make women look as whorish as possible and men look as effeminate at possible.”

The group plans to protest at Lincoln center on Saturday.

Going against the widespread mourning and remembrance services taking place this weekend with regards to the 9/11 anniversary, Westboro has also been touted as planning to protest at 9/11 memorial events.

Drain told the New York Post: “Forget about all this fashion nonsense…The fashion industry is dominated by fags and fag enablers. So we’ll preach to them.”

The Westboro Baptist Church has been sued in the past for causing emotional distress after their anti-war protests at military funerals. The extreme group has also been known for its opposition to Jews and other religious groups.

Fashion week started Thursday and will continue until September 15th. Some stylists in the line-up include the Academy of At Industry, Argentine designers such as Cardon and Cora Groppo, just to name a few, Dkny, J Crew, Lacoste and many others.
