What Did Jesus' Disciples Do When They Were Afraid?

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. Psalm 56:3

"Row for your life! The waves are going to sink us!" Jesus' disciples were terrified. They never imagined their day with Jesus would end in such fear.

The Lord Jesus Christ had been teaching along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. When evening came, He and His disciples got into a small boat to cross to the other side of the lake. As they started out, Jesus was soon asleep in the boat.

Then, a strong storm began to blow. The waves came over the sides of the boat, and the disciples tried to keep it from sinking. Fearing for their lives, the disciples woke Jesus and cried, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" (Mark 4:38). Jesus got up and spoke to the wind and waves. "Quiet! Be still!" He commanded them (Mark 4:39). Immediately the wind and the waves stopped. All was still.

Jesus said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" (Mark 4:40). The disciples were beginning to see that Jesus, God the Son, had great power over all things. Jesus wanted them to learn that they could trust Him when they were afraid. That's a lesson Jesus wants you to learn, too!
