'What Does the Spleen Do?' Parody of 'What Does the Fox Say' by Harvard Medical Students Goes Viral

Although the song doesn't really tell you, a video parody by Harvard medical students of the popular "What Does the Fox Say" viral video is asking "What Does the Spleen Do?" and for that, it has gone viral itself.

According to Ben Rome, who posted the video to YouTube on Sunday, the video was "created for the 107th Annual Second Year Show by the Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HMS/HSDM) class of 2016."

The entertaining presentation on the peculiar piece of human anatomy had amassed more than 600,000 views as of Wednesday evening and counting and viewers have responded with mixed reviews.

"Brilliant! If the medicine thing doesn't work out, definitely think about comedy production... maybe SNL. Congrats again," wrote D Vomer.

"Ahh Harvard...How do you have time for this when you have boards and residency to worry about?" asked Rigoberto Plascencia.

Other critics of the video like Dave Sherman, dismissed it as a subpar knockoff.

"Come on, Harvard. This is just a slick knockoff of an untouchable video, and this one falls short by a landslide. Call me elitist, but I expect something much more original from the same university that brought us the National Lampoon. If you're going to plagiarize, stick to term papers," wrote Sherman.

Several commenters on the video even tried responding directly to the question asked in the video – what does the spleen do?

Well, according to webmd: "The spleen plays multiple supporting roles in the body. It acts as a filter for blood as part of the immune system. Old red blood cells are recycled in the spleen, and platelets and white blood cells are stored there. The spleen also helps fight certain kinds of bacteria that cause pneumonia and meningitis."
