Whitney Houston 'Sparkle' Footage Shows Star Singing Gospel Hymn (VIDEO)

Whitney Houston is using her powerful voice to sing "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" and showcase her Christian faith in recently released behind-the-scenes footage on the set of her upcoming movie "Sparkle."

Houston was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight, which recently released footage of the 48-year-old singer who died on Feb. 11. The footage features Houston speaking about a coincidence with Mara Brock Akil, the film's writer, using the name of her childhood church in the script.

"The New Hope Baptist Church was the church I grew up in, in Newark N.J. When I read the script I said 'do y'all know the name New Hope Baptist Church was the church i grew up in in Newark,'" Houston said in the interview. "There was no idea. She put the name of the church in there and had no idea there was a church I grew up in called New Hope Baptist church."

Houston is seen in the taping working through her scenes in the film, and bonding with co-star Jordin Sparks. During the interview, the beloved singer acknowledged that she did not like people cursing around her, including Sparks.

The pair recalled an incident in which Sparks was listening to music with explicit content and Houston reacted.

"I forgot one of [the songs] was explicit and I looked over at Whitney and I was like no,"Jordin exclaimed. "I'm sorry!"

Houston recalled during the interview reprimanding her on-screen daughter for listening to the music.

"I said 'dear, are they saying what i think they're saying'? She said 'ok i'm turning it,'" Houston said. "I do that with my own daughter. I was like 'no we're not listening to that.'"

The ET behind-the-scenes footage shows Houston, who has been vocal about her faith throughout her career, saying "praise God" and belting out notes in the song "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."

The movie will mark Houston's last motion picture performance, with filming ending three weeks before her death. "Sparkle" will be in theaters on Aug. 17.
