'Whose Line Is It Anyways' 2013: Improv Show Returns to Television

The popular improvisational comedy show "Whose Line Is It Anyway" returned to television last night after a nine-year hiatus. The show was brought back to life by the CW network and has much of the old cast, including Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and Colin Mochrie.

There is a great deal of excitement within the cast about returning to the show. Cast members do not seem concerned about the nine-year break, according to USA Today.

"When we were shooting, we were joking around saying it felt like everyone stepped out for lunch and came right back. And I think that's the coolest compliment that you could pay each other," Wayne Brady said.

It appears that the show was brought back because that's what the fans wanted.

"We've toured different groups, and everywhere we go, people kept asking, 'When is Whose Line coming back?' It just stuck in my mind that someday, somebody will bring it back, because people enjoy the show," Ryan Stiles said.

Will the show have the same appeal after a nine-year break? "Whose Line" star Colin Mochrie thinks it will because the show is so different from what is on TV today.

"I find it hard watching sitcoms these days, because I find a lot of times, they fall into a formula. There's almost a mathematical equation where you can come up with the punch lines to the jokes before them. With our show, because we don't know what the punch lines are or the setups, there's this constant surprise, and I think that was one of the endearing qualities about it," Mochrie told USA Today.

Catch the return of "Whose Line Is It Anyway" Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
