A small town in New Zealand is actively searching for potential residents luring them with about a thousand of job openings and $165,000 just to relocate to this rural locality.

"This is an old-fashioned community, we don't lock our houses, we let kids run free," mentioned dairy farmer Evan Dick. "We have jobs, we have houses, but we don't have people. We want to make this town vibrant again, we are waiting with open arms."
The jobs offered in the locality are said to be good-paying ones like those in cheese and milk factories. The town is hoping that other New Zealanders living in cities would consider moving to the rural where their life could greatly improved.
Chance to Improve Life
In an interview with The Guardian, Clutha district Mayor Bryan Cadogan explained that Kaitangata gave him the chance to recover after he got unemployed and had nothing to feed his family. In an effort to give back, Cadogan said they hope they can offer the same opportunity to other people.
When it comes to jobs, people will not have any problem finding one because there are about 1,000 openings that need to be filled and the town only has two young people who do not have work. With the small number of people in the locality, the mayor said the town has been forced to take workers from Dunedin, a nearby city which is about an hour away.
Inquiries Started Coming In
Since Kaitangata expressed its need for residents, The New Zealand Herald said that around 5,000 people from across the globe have sent queries on how to relocate to the town. Most of those who left messages were from Britain, Poland, Syria and even the U.S.
It added that a lot of people could not resist the offer because it gives them a chance to improve their life with a house and land package. Dick shared that a mother and her daughter recently arrived at the small town and could not believe that they actually own a land and a residence in the area.
What's Next?
A meeting with business owners and community is said to be underway as the town prepares for more people to express interest in moving to Kaitangata.
