Why Should I Obey God?

I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands. Psalm 119:60

It is easy to make a l-o-n-g list of what God wants you to do: Be nice to people! Pray! Tell the truth! Tell others about Jesus! Obey your parents!

What a list! Can you add other things? The hard part is to hasten (or hurry) and not delay (wait) to do those things. God wants you to pay attention to what the Bible says. Then, choose to obey cheerfully.

When you fail to obey God, you cannot expect Him to answer your prayers. You cause unhappiness for yourself and probably for other people. Most of all, you disappoint the God who loves you and sent Jesus to be your Savior.

Why should you obey God? In the Bible Jesus says, "If you love me, you will obey what I command" (John 14:15). The main reason you should obey God is because you love Him. Tell God you want to obey Him. Ask God to give you the power to obey Him. What will happen when you obey God's commands? The Bible says, " . . . you will be blessed if you do them" (John 13:17). Obeying God will bring you joy in your life here on Earth. Obeying God will bring you rewards in Heaven.
