'Wolverine 3' Cast News, Update: Hugh Jackman Says Film Will Be His Last Playing the Mutant

Actor Hugh Jackman officially confirmed, in an interview on the "Dr. Oz" show that the upcoming superhero movie "Wolverine 3" will be the last time that he will take on the role of the titular hero.

"This will be my last one," the 46-year-old Australian actor said. "It is my last time. It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it."

"I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out," he said.

Rumors which circulated earlier this year points out to the actor sharing a photo on his social media account a set of his prop claws with the caption: "WOLVERINE…ONE LAST TIME."

The actor's statements, however, left some questions of whether or not his Wolverine will still make an appearance in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" which will arrive to the big screen before "Wolverine 3."

Screen Rant also speculated about whether the forthcoming installment will continue from the events that happened in "The Wolverine" or from the latest "Days of Future Past."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated to hit the theaters on May 27, 2016. The still untitled Wolverine standalone sequel is meanwhile expected to arrive on cinemas March 3, 2017.
