In 1988, Shelly Cumley of Seattle was driving on a California highway when two men, clearly intoxicated, passed her at a dangerous speed. As she rounded a curve, she saw the accident.

The men had crossed the median and slammed into a car driven by Roanna Farley. As Cumley approached the scene, Farley, trapped in the driver's seat, screamed for her baby in the back seat. Farley pulled the baby, Nicole, out of her car seat to show her mother she was fine.

Farley was airlifted to the hospital and Cumley followed, dropping Nicole off at the hospital, relieved that the baby emerged from the ordeal unscathed. However, when she visited the hospital on her way back to Seattle, Cumley learned that Nicole was paralyzed from the chest down. She went away devastated, fearing she had caused the baby's spinal cord injury when she removed her from the car seat.

She would spend the next 25 years wondering. And then she found one young woman's testimony of not only surviving tragedy, but overcoming it through faith, hope, love and trust in Jesus. It was Nicole Farley, the baby she rescued, and the video showed the amazing life she's lived since that fateful day.

In the video, Nicole rides a horse, water-skis on an adapted mono ski, swims with dolphins, does mission work in India and much more.

"Because of my faith in Jesus, I know who I am," she proclaims in the video.

After deliberation, Cumley decided to contact Nicole, who quickly replied. In her heartfelt email, Nicole made sure to tell Cumley she didn't cause her paralysis. A 25-year-old burden was lifted.

They would meet in a few months. However, Nicole had something even better in mind.

In this video, News10 interviews Cumley at the Portland home of Nicole Farley's grandparents. As Cumley answers questions, Nicole and her mother sneak up behind her. The reporter asks Cumley to turn around, and the tear-laden reunion is on.
