Woman's Missionary Union of Texas Honors Outgoing President

Kathy Hillman, the outgoing president of the Texas Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), was honored for her four years of service to the ministry, during the pre-gathering meeting of the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT), in San Antonio, Texas.

“Kathy dealt with many new things when she came on four years ago -- a new director, restructuring of the staff and others -- and she has provided great organizational skills, has done it with grace and has been the voice for women in the Baptist General Convention of Texas," said Carolyn Porterfield, WMU of Texas executive director, during the WMU dinner on Nov. 7.

Laura Harris, first promotional vice president of the WMU of Texas, presented a brief biography of Hillman, adding that she “held every office and chaired every committee in Texas WMU except recording secretary, and with her election as recording secretary for national WMU, she's got that covered, as well."

Nina Pinkston, third vice president, thanked Hillman for her guidance to the WMU women throughout the decades.

"You were an inspiration to Baptist women there and encouraged them,” said Pinkston.

Meanwhile, Hillman, a librarian at Baylor University and member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco, returned the praise to God, saying her term as president was more than just a ‘fun’ time.

"I have so enjoyed being your president," Hillman responded. "Someone asked me if I'd have fun, but fun isn't the word I would use. Stretching, rewarding, … a time when God wanted me to do something great for Him."

In other business, promotional vice president Laura Harris was recognized for completing her four year term in the WMU Texas.
