'Wonder Woman' Movie Cast News, Update: 'Star Trek' Actor to Play Titular Character's Love Interest?

The upcoming big screen film from Warner Bros. and DC Cinematic Universe "Wonder Woman," the standalone movie, has been the topic on the internet lately.

It has already been confirmed that Israeli star Gal Gadot will be playing the titular superheroine, and that her character will be featured "in some capacity" in the soon-to-premiere "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" with Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight and Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.

"Wonder Woman" may have already started its production process by first picking up the actor for the Amazonian's love interest, Steve Trevor.

A Variety report said that "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine "is in talks" to take on the rumoured male lead role in the female-fronted film.

Warner Bros. made no comment on the issue.

For the uninitiated, Trevor is part of Wonder Woman's origin story. The comic books tell of a U.S. Navy intelligence officer who got stranded in an isolated island which happens to be the home of the Amazon warriors.

Suffering from the crash landing, Trevor is nursed back to health by the princess of the tribe, Diana. The latter falls in love with the outsider. She later follows Trevor back to his world and assumes the identity of Diana Prince. There, she becomes the superhero the world knows as Wonder Woman.

Pine's involvement also means that his purported character could be around for quite a bit since the DCCU opted to take on the "New 52" story. The said chapter features Trevor as having a close connection with the tough leader of the Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller. That character will be played by "How to Get Away with Murder" star Viola Davis in the upcoming movie.

Fans will get to see Wonder Woman in "Batman v Superman," which will premiere on March 26, 2016 and in her standalone title June 23, 2017.
