Bible teacher Tom Meyer, a member of Wordsower International Ministries, an organization focused on spreading the Gospel through reciting entire books of the Bible, shared with The Christian Post why he believes memorization is so important when it comes to preaching the Good News.

Meyer has practiced his art all over America and spent more than 10 years perfecting his skills. He is currently preparing for a performance Sunday, April 15 at Shoaff Park Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he will recite the entire Book of Revelation, the prophetic last book of the Bible.

"One of the main reasons the Bible was given to man was recorded in Joshua 1:8, and it says 'This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shall meditate therein day and night.' The rest of the verse goes on to describe meditating on the word of God, and the only way to do that is to call up Him from your heart and think ... and mediate [on] the words that you memorized."

He continued: "I found that there were many verses in the Bible that laid out openly that sometimes we just cast over what we are reading. There are numerous instances, such as Jesus being tempted in the desert by the devil, where he does not reason or debate philosophically with the devil, but quotes Scripture."

Meyer revealed that Wordsower International Ministries has been getting such fantastic responses that they are scheduled to perform at various venues until the end of the year.

"The audiences are always blessed. When we perform Revelation, as you know in chapter one, verse three, it says that 'Blessed is he who reads out loud and those who hear.' Secondly, they are edified. They are seeing as if John or Moses is standing in front of them, speaking to them verbatim with all the passion, and all the drama and everything that comes along with the text. And also they are inspired to memorize God's word."

The Bible teacher also said that he encourages people to memorize the Bible for themselves, and shares with them tools and methods they can use in the task.

Meyer said that the book of Revelation is their most popular performance – and shared that he had done Song of Songs only once (the book is mostly about courtship between a man and a woman), at a Valentine's Day banquet, where "after the first chapter, there was no eye contact" from anyone in the audience, due to the intimate nature of the verses.

"I normally do the Book of Revelation, that's our centerpiece – though I also do Genesis, the foundation of our faith, quite often as well," he added

Wordsower International Ministries has several church-planting efforts around the world, and Sunday's performance in particular will help outreach efforts in West Africa, India, and Haiti. The organization describes its mission as caring for the spiritual, physical, and educational needs of orphans, widows, refugee and street children in countries from around the world.
