World Vision Distributes Relief to Over 39,000 Families in India
World Vision has provided non-food relief items to over 39,307 families in india
One of the largest Christian relief and development organizations in the world has provided non-food relief items to over 39,307 families of 11 regions in India that were affected by the Dec. 26 tsunami-quake disaster that ravaged coastal regions of 12 nations in southern Asia and East Africa.
In addition to its distribution of relief items, World Vision International is also providing its services in child protection, shelter provision, and economic recovery.
According to a report released on Friday by World Vision, the organization has provided non-food relief items to over 39,307 families of Nagapatinam, Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar islands, Krupasagar, Premamaya, Allepey, Kollam and Chennai.

World Vision has also provided 270 houses and toilets in Chaouldhari and Bambooflat villages, Andaman and Nicobar islands; and at least 4000 fire and heat resistant shelters for over 20,000 people have been provided in Cuddalore, Nagapatinam and Chennai, the organization reported.
Currently, World Vision is the largest provider of temporary shelter in Nagapattinam.
Meanwhile, World Vision has distributed 18 fishing boats to benefit more than 90 families in Cuddalore
World Vision is also supporting women in Pondicherry and Cuddalore with tailoring classes while youth are also being helped with driving classes so they can seek employment as drivers.
The organization has distributed materials for small-scale shopkeepers in Kerela and is supporting the establishment of 157 dry fish business units.
It has also provided 164 boats serving at least 820 fishermen’s families in Tamilnadu, Kerela and Andhra Pradesh and will be providing boats, nets and engines to over 5,000 families in Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu, Kollam in Kerala, Machilipatinam, Narsapur and Singarayakonda in Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry.
Recently, World Vision conducted a children’s festival in Alleppey District, Kerela involving 786 children to assist in the psycho-social recovery of tsunami-affected children.
The organization is meeting with advocates, doctors, educationalists and social workers in Kerela to form Child Protection Policies.
