'World War Z 2' update: Steven Knight submits draft for sequel, plot may go different direction

The apocalyptic action horror film "World War Z" is getting a sequel and it's going to feature, once again, main actor Brad Pitt. According to Venture Capital Post, the zombie-filled film is currently in the works and yes, fans will see once again the ever talented and handsome Pitt who will be reprising his role as UN Agent Gerry Lane. He is also reported to produce the upcoming sequel.

And there's no turning back anymore for the movie because writer/director Steven Knight has revealed that the first draft for the sequel has been turned in already. Back in August, the Oscar-nominee writer spoke with Collider wherein he revealed that he was given a clean slate to begin.

Quoting what he said, "I was approached with the idea of, 'How do we move this along?' so who could resist?"

With that said, it's possible that the fans can expect Knight to come up with a follow-up that will have a different turn on the plot's story. It may swerve off a little from the source novel written by Max Brooks and from the first film. But these information still remain as speculations though.

One thing is for sure—it's going to start with a clean slate and waiting for what it will be all about will have to be done as no further details have been revealed yet.

Other than the subject about the first draft, Knight also spoke about what he loved the most of the film. He answered that "the beauty of the first film" was how it never "paused for breath." He described how it continuously engaged the fans without taking the moment to stop and explain what's happening. As he said, "It stayed in the moment, it stayed with that person."

His answer makes fans speculate and take it as a hint on what the sequel might be. They say that it could mean that the film will follow the first film's single point of view formula. More details will emerge soon as production progresses.

"World War Z 2" is expected to hit theaters on June 9, 2017.
