World's First Voice-Navigated eBible for Mobile Phones Makes Debut

Christian-based software company eBible has launched the world's first ever voice-navigated Bible for Android mobile phones, which will give consumers the ability to navigate Scripture simply by saying the verse they want to read out loud.

"What sets our eBible mobile app apart from others is, you can actually tell your Bible what you want to read and our app instantly takes you there. For example, say 'John 3:16,' and our app will open up John chapter 3, verse 16 and read it back to you," explained Colin Wong, CEO of eBible, in a press release.

The eBible initiative was launched in 2010 by a group of Christian entrepreneurs who felt that there was a lack of new technology available for believers in regards to viewing and reading the Bible on the Internet and through mobile apps.

"With Apple's recent launch of SIRI on the iPhone, the industry is beginning to recognize voice-recognition as the next generation UI (user interface) enabler for smartphones and tablets. eBible plans to release voice-recognition for its iPhone and iPad apps very soon as well." Wong added about the importance of keeping up with the latest technologies.

Unable to find any Bible software online that they thought was clean, free, simple and "made for regular folks like us," the entrepreneurs, who had recently been involved in another Christian social network project, began building a clean and easy-to-use Bible software.

"After some prayer and deliberation, we decided to do a startup to innovate on the next generation online Bible software. Our focus would be to provide a free, simple, clean and pleasurable reading experience with no advertisements or other distractions," the team's biography reads.

Reviews on the Android market for eBible were mostly positive, with a 4.4-star rating out of five based on 10 reviews.

Wong, a former Google engineer, also helped put together with his eBible team products and services including VerseLink, a web tool that instantly transforms any scripture references on a web page into a link to the Bible, and Embedded Bible, a service that enables any church, ministry or publisher to have a custom Bible on its website.

Commenting on the team's mission when it comes to serving Christ, eBible's statement reads:

"John 1 teaches us that 'the Word became flesh' in Jesus. We at eBible truly believe that life change happens through a deeper engagement with the Bible. Our motto is: 'Engage the Bible, Experience Jesus.'

"At the end of the day, we just want you to read the Bible more. If we can help you achieve that, we will have reached our goal of what this company is all about."

Back in Sept. 2011, the company changed its name from ooBible.com to eBible.
