WWE 2016 Rumors: Goldberg Return Update, Possible Comeback at Clash of Champions Nixed?

Over the past few months, no name had been of interest to the WWE Universe as much as Goldberg. It is an old name, but one that emits a legacy on two of the greatest promotions in professional wrestling history.

Bill Goldberg left WWE in 2004, but even at almost 50 years old, fans are still cheering him on for one more match. Sting and The Undertaker are pulling off the feat at that age, albeit part-time. In fact, Goldberg himself had said that he had been keeping himself fit and in fighting form.

Recent speculations arose that the notorious bruiser of WCW and WWE fame will be returning to WrestleMania 33. But latest rumors say he might be back sooner, at the Clash of Champions PPV.

Goldberg back?

Earlier reports said "the wheels are in motion" for Goldberg's return to the squared circle. Goldberg said he had buried the hatchet and met with Triple H, apparently mending ties with the company after 12 years.

Goldberg is still in fine form at his age, training in Muay Thai on a consistent basis. He had teased his return quite a lot recently, having an exchange of veiled threats with Lesnar. The feud actually happened prior to WrestleMania XX and the two squared off in an unsatisfying match at the grandest stage of them all.

Lesnar is still with the company and is established as the most dominant wrestler in the business. This is why a reboot of their feud is still being teased, with a prospect of culminating at WrestleMania 33. However, it seemed that the anticipated confrontation would happen sooner.

It was reported that Goldberg would be in the same city, Indianapolis, where Clash of Champions happens on Sunday. He was scheduled to be interviewed by Eric Bischoff for the latter's podcast.

Possibility scrapped

However, the latest report said Goldberg's deal with Bischoff fell through, which can mean two things: either Goldberg has other business (such as a certain pay-per-view) on the same day, or he would not be in the city all.

Still, the prospect of him returning is salivating for hardcore fans. WWE had pulled off a lot of surprises over the past weeks for the WWE Universe—Triple H returning and handing Kevin Owens a title, AJ Styles winning a belt and Bayley finally crossing over to the main roster. This might just be the perfect time for a legend to return; at the dawn of the New Era.
