WWE 2016 Rumors: The Undertaker Returning at Royal Rumble 2017? Possible Matchups and Predictions

There is no doubt that The Undertaker is one of the greatest superstars in sports entertainment history. He is a huge, iconic beast who instilled fear into the hearts of stars and fans alike.

His undefeated campaign at WrestleMania was finally broken by another beast, Brock Lesnar, in a singles match at the grandest stage of them all. From then on, the 50-year-old veteran became a part-timer competitor. He last competed in Wrestlemania 32 against the high-flying Shane McMahon. After getting the win, he has yet to return to WWE.

Amid rumors of retirement, The Deadman may rise once again for one final match. The good news is that it might be sooner than everyone expected.

Ready to Rumble

The Royal Rumble had always been an attraction to WWE fans. The first of the "Big Four" pay-per-views takes place every January. It starts the year by pitting the company's top superstars against each other in a battle royale, throwing each other off the ropes to determine a new No. 1 contender for the title of that person's choosing.

The Royal Rumble match is the main event of the purposely named PPV. The entrants are always arranged in an obscure order, with fans wondering who is going to appear next. That said, Rumbles over the past years have had a lot of surprise entrants—from injured superstars returning early to seemingly retired athletes making a comeback.

This year, Triple H, who Is already in an executive position, entered the Rumble as No. 30, eliminating then-WWE Champion Roman Reigns and everyone else left to claim the belt. Chris Jericho, Mick Foley and Kevin Nash as Diesel also made remarkable comebacks under the shroud of a mystery Rumble entrant.

That said, The Undertaker is rumored to be returning at Royal Rumble this January. This might set up a feud for the Undertaker at the beginning of "The Road to WrestleMania," with the possibility of The Phenom hanging his hat at WWE's flagship event.

'Taker vs. Cena?

There are a lot of possible matchups for The Undertaker guaranteed to sell out WrestleMania. Brock Lesnar, Goldberg and Sting, who even postponed a neck surgery, are all on the list.

One such name fans would definitely pay to see is John Cena, who may be the best option for 'Takers last hurrah. Past 'Manias had seen a brewing retirement match series.

Shawn Michaels retired Ric Flair at 'Mania 24, and The Undertaker retired Michaels two years later at 'Mania 26. The Undertaker, therefore, would come full circle at 'Mania 33, and the longtime face of WWE would be the perfect choice to end an illustrious career.
