WWE Payback Results: Did John Cena Retain Title? (Spoilers)

WWE Payback was full of surprises and intense battles last night. The WWE event saw the return of a former champion and the crowning of a new one. Who won and who lost? Read on for full results.

The main event, of course, was the "Three Stages of Hell" match featuring champion John Cena and Ryback. The two battled one another in only the fourth match of its kind. Ryback appeared to have an advantage based on brute strength alone, but when 30 Superstars surrounded the ring, Ryback found himself in trouble. In a final Tables Match, Cena claimed the victory.

"Cena proved that he is [the real] WWE Champion. The champ is here," commented WWE.com reader Omar Mohmed.

"John Cena won! It's very good for me because John Cena [is] one of my favorite wrestlers," added Oleksiy Olkesandr.

Former champion CM Punk made his return to the WWE Universe in a match against Chris Jericho. He easily won the match by reversing the "Walls of Jericho" and using his trademark "Go To Sleep" move. He walked away from the match a winner in his hometown of Chicago.

In tag team action, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan took on two members of The Shield, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Bryan, still eager to prove himself to his teammate and the WWE Universe, accidentally took out Orton. Later in the match, Orton stomped on Bryan's head for the pinfall. The Shield then took the win and retained their Tag Team Championship.

"Expected, but still sweet. After their first loss at Smackdown, Shield sure had a lot of payback in store. The only question now: Will Randy give out some payback of his own after this?" asked WWE reader Regina McIntyre.

In a surprising match, newcomer Curtis Axel managed to defeat Wade Barrett and The Miz to become the new Intercontinental Champion. AJ Lee defeated Kaitlyn and became the newest Diva Champion.

It is sure to be an interesting episode of "WWE Raw" tonight on USA, just one day after titles changed hands and rivalries were rekindled.
