'X-Files' Casting News, Update: Fox Adds 2 Big Names for Upcoming Reboot

There's only about six months left before Fox's cult-classic TV series "The X-Files" returns to the small screens. Bringing along a handful of new episodes beginning Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, the reboot series brings back David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively.

Besides the pair, a new casting report from The Hollywood Reporter indicated that actors Robbie Amell ("The Flash") and Lauren Ambrose ("Six Feet Under") are coming over as guest stars in the fourth episode of the show.

Character details were currently scarce. According to the site, however, Ambrose headlines the character named Agent Einstein described as a "sharp" and "confident" operative. Amell, on the other hand, portrays Agent Miller – a "smart" and "smooth" individual.

Despite the characters' likeness to the X-Files duo, sources for the media outlet clarified that this particular segment won't be a flashback to the golden days of Mulder and Scully. Instead, it will be set in the present timeline.

Other guest stars expected to appear in the limited series event include Annet Mahendru ("Homeland") and Joel McHale ("Community").

Meanwhile, it was previously confirmed that Mitch Pileggi will be reprising his role as Walter Skinner with William B. Davis as the infamous Cigarette-Smoking Man.

Officially announced back in March, the six-episode run of "The X-Files" will continue the tale of the sci-fi favourite show which follows FBI Special Agents Mulder and Scully as they search for answers on unexplained cases that tend to involve paranormal phenomena.
