'X-Men: Apocalypse' Expert Says Film a Disaster, Might Kill Franchise
On May 18th, "X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit international big screens. Ahead of its overseas release, a film industry expert published his thoughts, stating that the movie is altogether a disaster and could possibly mark the end of the hit franchise.
Forbes contributor and film expert Scott Mendelson believes there are several reasons that make the disastrous film. One of the more apparent reasons is the decision to focus the story around Magneto (Michael Fassbender). Mendelson pointed out in his review that the character's new wife and daughter were given more dialogue than Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn).
Another issue is the lack of screentime given to the other three "horsemen," Psylocke, Storm and Angel (Ben Hardy). Jennifer Lawrence herself, who plays the role of Mystique, wasn't also given a good storyline. A more colorful story for Lawrence's character could have done good for the film as she is considered as the world's biggest female star.

While Mendelson acknowledged that most of the previous installments of the franchise that gave rise to modern superheroes were well-done, he said, "X-Men: Apocalypse is the kind of weightless, soulless trifle of a bore that makes comic book superhero movies look bad."
There's also the most-awaited scene that Swifties expected to see after Taylor Swift was rumored to play Dazzler. While there was no confirmation regarding the rumor, it seemed as if the sequel tried to imply that the "Bad Blood" singer will appear somewhere in the movie. SPOILER ALERT: unfortunately, the scene where the viral photo of Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) holding up Dazzler's album supposedly came from won't be in the film.
Meanwhile, USA Today's Brian Truitt noted that "Apocalypse" seems to be "undone" and there are too many characters, making it more difficult to understand if production is trying to focus on oldies such as Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) or if the installment wants to shine the spotlight on newbies such as Cyclops and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner).
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated for release in the U.S. on May 27, 2016.
